I’m Mary Stokes and I’m a MA Multimedia Broadcast Journalism student at University College Falmouth.
This summer I will be producing a fifteen minute documentary exploring how the festivals are trying to become more environmentally friendly. This blog is dedicated to my MA documentary.
Contrary to popular opinion, I didn’t chose this topic just because I wanted to spend this summer going to lots of festivals. Having previously worked behind the bar at festivals I have seen the amount of rubbish left behind at the end of the day. So I am genuinely interested in how festival organisers are trying to combat the environmental effects of hosting a weekend of live music in some of the most rural parts of the country.
A bit more about me:
Having grown up constantly surrounded by it, I am passionate about music. I would eventually like to work as a music journalist – ideally making music documentaries. I am also a committed environmentalist, I believe that climate change is the one biggest threat facing society today.
